Sweet Hour of Prayer

I really enjoy reading the old hymns, they immediately place my spirit in a position of prayer.

"They all joined together constantly in prayer" -- Acts 1:14

Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, that calls me from a world of care and bids me at my Father's throne make all my wants and wishes known! In seasons of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief, and oft escaped the tempter's snare by thy return, sweet hour of prayer.

Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, they wings shall my petition bear to Him whose truth and faithfulness engage the waiting soul to bless: and since He bids me seek His face, Believe His word and trust his grace, I'll cast on Him my every care and wait for they, sweet hour of prayer.

Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, May I they consolation share, till, from Mount Pisgah's lofty height, I view my home and take my flight: This robe of flesh I'll drop and rise to seize the everlasting prize; and shout, while passing thro' the air, "farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!"

Words: William Walford, 1772-1850

Father,
Thank you, that You desire I come each day to Your throne of grace, letting go all the cares of this world. Waiting upon You in silence. Help me to come close even when my will gets in the way. Thank You Jesus for sending the Holy Spirit to teach me moment by moment how to pray. Oh, how my spirit loves the sweet sweet hour of prayer. Thank You Jesus that I am learning to walk daily with you. Amen.
