John Piper - Be Couragous, President Barack Obama

My small group has been listening to John Piper since the beginning of the month. His sermons are thought provoking, inspiring and have challenged the group discussion. This weeks topic is going to be interesting...

Wisdom

Last night a friend handed me this prayer. She told me it had spoke to her during the day, and thought it would encourage me. I pray whoever may read this prayer will be graced with the Spirit of Wisdom and be encouraged!

"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of Your heart." --Psalm 37:4

Father, You have shown that You want to guide what we pray so that You can grant us the desires of our hearts. I want to begin this day with King Solomon's response to Your question, "Ask! What shall I give you?"(2 Chronicles 1:7). Solomon asked for an "understanding heart," and confessed his inadequacy and need for strength to fulfill his responsibilities.

It's moving to know that the Hebrew words for "understanding heart," literally translated, refer to a "hearing heart." Solomon wanted to hear both Your voice and the voices of the people who came to him with their needs, He wanted to be able to respond and speak to those needs out of the depth of wisdom that came from a heart tuned to Your Spirit's supernatural power.

Lord, make me one who longs to have a wise and understanding heart. May I be one who listens carefully to Your heart speaking to my heart. Help me to listen to You today and always!

Jesus thank you for hearing our prayers. Amen.

Embracing the new look

When I come on to this blog it is inviting to write, what wonders take place with a new decor and colors.

No more writing for today the kitchen is calling my heart to come and create.

My recipe choice for today from Real Simple, "Winter Lentil Soup." I enjoy making soups and trying out unfamiliar recipes. My desire is to learn how to cook with more lentils.

Sweat

Reading through my notes written/taken as I work through "Preaching" by Calvin Miller, I found a statement that is absolutely true.

"Resources are an automatic part of who they are (who I am), having been gained in the sweat of personal study."

Over the last month, the personal sweat from study has been the price paid for all I gleaned through the reading. Charles Colson's book, "Loving God" brought clarity to several questions I had, and transformation to my soul. Colson's book has been part of my library for over ten years, I had missed out on the treasure all these years. Maybe I will look at this another way: I was not ready to read his book until now.

Another point from Calvin Miller: Two keys to analyzing sermon makers: One, they must be in love with God, and two, they must love ALL those who God loves.

Interesting. Sounds like a scripture verse I know.

Notes from Church

The title of the sermon today (January 25, 2009) “Grace Without Compromise.” Lou Leventhal the morning lead pastor had reflections on how to react when we see sinful behavior in others. You can listen to the sermon online from Emmanuel Baptist Church Saskatoon website. The text today was from John 8:1-11. These reflections are from my notes and will have a touch of paraphrasing added.

When we see sinful behavior in others, 10 suggestions:

1. Ask God to examine your own heart sins.
2. Confess and repent of any sin the Holy Spirit reveals to you.
3. Thank God for His forgiveness, for His cleansing, and for His grace in your life.
4. Ask yourself if it is really sin. Pray the Holy Spirit will bring conviction to this brother or sister.
5. Ask God how He wants to use you. He may ask you to pray.
6. Pray for humility, kindness, love, grace, and right heart motives, with the desire to bring restoration and wholeness.
7. Ask your friend when would there be a good time to chat.
8. When you speak—speak in love.
9. Be available. Assure the person you love them unconditionally.
10. Regardless of how the person responds continue to pray for them.

I found these reflections helpful, noticing six of these points have to do with getting us right before God and others before we even enter into pointing out sin in another.

God your grace still amazes me!

Focus

I am up late trying to focus on Christ as I work through a few distractions in my life. Earlier I read a post that has helped me to focus from A Rauch Journey. I found Psalm 62 and 63 soothing to my soul.

Off to bed I go...my soul is at rest.

Be Thou My Vision- Jars Of Clay (w/ dload link and lyrics)

My Motto

New and Simple

Changing the template to a blog is like painting your home, it gives a new look and it feels good.

My husband and I painted one wall in each room throughout our home in a dark bittersweet chocolate, and the other walls different shades of tan. I noticed the Starbucks near my home has simular shades.

My blog like my home still needs a few things adjusted, the picture in the header would be nicer if it covered the whole block not just two-thirds. The HTML in the template to this blog is confusing as I have mentioned. I will need to live with the way it is for now, as I do with other not so perfect areas in my life. One day I will master this problem!

I can always find away to turn a life problem into a spiritual journey: God is not through transforming me and I am not through transforming my home and blog.

Over the last few month's the urgency for prayer has heated up in my life. Since I did not finish my class on intercession today, my solution was to read a book from my library. The title of the book I choose, "Everything by Prayer: Armin Gesswein's Keys to Spirit-Filled Living," By Fred A. Hartley III. From what I have read so far, it is very interesting, and has more depth than the class. Armin Gesswein's name did get mention yesterday as I chatted with a few people after the workshop.

The first chapter in this book focused on the critical nature of Jesus stance on prayer and the importance of Upper Room. Hartley asks a question: "How does the UR (Upper Room) compare to the ER (Emergency Room) at a hospital?" One that is simple enough to answer in theory. The question is why is does it seem like other ministries are more important than the prayer ministry? I am still contemplating my question.

In chapter one, Hartley has four main essential elements he writes about, found in the book of Acts Chapter 1. The four points are: One--The Doorway to Obedience. Two--The Atmosphere of Unity. Three--The Ceiling of Spiritual Intimacy. And the Fourth--The Floorboards of Expectancy.

The book is full of great quotes from Armin such as, "People think that revival is the last thing on God's big busy list--and therefore hard to get. It is not the last thing on His list--it is the first. When He gives revival, He gives Himself."

One more quote from Armin Gesswien to end with: "In the book of Acts they are praying in every chapter except two; and in those chapters they are in trouble."

Both these quotes give us something to chew on as do the many others found in this book. Hartley writes, local churches have an Upper Room in one way or another and it is the force that moves the church. Unfortunately prayer is not usually the dominate force. Many other areas are important such as small groups, preaching, church planting, evangelism, or counseling. None of these, writes Hartley, merits Upper Room status.

Prayer needs to be first, Christ commanded the disciples to stay in Jerusalem (pray) until the gift God promises comes (the Spirit) to lead (Acts 1:4-5.)

Trying to Blog

A strange thing, four years ago I would blog everyday and was prolific in my writing, but today the words do not come as easily. I am trying to hand write three pages a day and writing in the hard journal is not as intimidating as the online journal. I believe the reason is knowing no one will read my entries, this has a releasing power. I still would like to post more on my blog.

The original name for this blog was walking with Yeshua. I can not change the name on the URL, as I contemplate this perhaps the name should stay in the original form. I do walk with Jesus daily and my words will reflect my journey with Him.

I believe the first step to walking with Christ daily is getting totally grounded in God's word. I am thankful I can read it freely without persecution.

Over the last few days I was convicted that I need to start prayer walking again, and that was another reason I named this blog walking with Yeshua.

Totally Confused

The whole world of media on the internet has advanced way beyond what I can comprehend. I seem to have lost something over the last year. Blogger is totally confusing. I used to be able to move around in the template adding and eliminating, but now it is beyond me. I am perplexed.

It is easier to write a paper.

I have two weeks before my next class starts, and I believe I need to just be for a week.

I thought I would treat myself and take a workshop on intercession, but it was also confusing and not the direction I sense God leading. Not the intercession, just the method used in the class. I believe I am more contemplative than charismatic.

All this is leaving me exhausted and needing to trust God is directing.
